You Hold the Key to Defining Your Own Success

I have watched in awe as the tide has shifted in the entertainment industry over the past few years. The ‘cards to stardom’ are no longer held in the hands of Fortune 500 companies, but instead they are now scattered about—almost as if they are drifting aimlessly along through the air, waiting for anyone to catch them. Gone are the days when Hollywood was the only way to become a star—now people are becoming “overnight sensations” in their own backyard.

The same is true for corporate America. People are not scratching and fighting for a job just to make a paycheck anymore. More acts of soul-searching and risk-taking are being done, leading many to discover talents and pursue passions to create businesses and wealth of their own.

We are living in a day and age where the attainment of success is no longer dictated by the likes of high-level executives, popularity contests, or even family members or friends. Nowadays, you can truly be and have what you want. Also, success is no longer measured outwardly by man–it is measured by the inner spirit. With that being said, the question is not whether you are successful, but rather what level of success are you currently on.

If your response to the statement above was, “Yeah, right ” and you do not believe that you are currently successful, consider the following:

First, take a look around you right now and reflect on all of the many blessings that you have. Not everyone is as fortunate as you are—you are successful.

Now, reflect on all of the obstacles you have overcome in your life. You have survived many things that others would have surrendered to or succumbed in—you are successful.

Finally, think about today, this very moment. If you have had failures and mistakes in the past, let them remain a distant memory of your past. You hold something very valuable in your hand, which is the present. You can shape and build it into what you want, on your own terms.

Now is the time to take your existing success and your gift of the present and make it into something greater. You don’t have to wait for someone to grant you permission—you have the power at this very moment to begin for yourself.  And you don’t have to carry your life and way of thinking by the status quo—take your abilities and interests and use them to create the life you desire. Your happiness with what you do and pride in your accomplishments serve as your own measurements of higher success.

Always remember that real success does not lie in possessions, classifications, certifications or numbers–instead it rests in the power of your heart and mind. When you start to redefine your personal definition of success, and your thoughts and actions transform to reflect that definition, you will see a positive shift take place in your life of joy, peace, and satisfaction beyond measure!

“Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.”

Great post, Melisa!

One that is very important to come to grips with. If we’d truly consider just how blessed we truly are, then our successes in life will be better acknowledged by us. I am successful not because of anything that I have, but because I have learned to be so. I own it! 😉

Greetings: Right on Deeone!

Everyday I look around me and give thanks for the many blessings(successes) that I currently have in my life. Like the saying goes, “I may not be where I wanna be, but I’m a long ways from where I used to be!” I really wish that more people would look at their lives from this perspective–the world would be a much better place. ~Thank you so much for commenting! 🙂

Love it! So true!! And a timely reminder for me as a stress myself out way too much over test scores and assignments! I need to relax and enjoy my family. Thank you for posting this!

Greetings — and welcome! 🙂

You are so welcome Kalista! I completely understand how you feel–I am a currently a student too and I sometimes have a tendency to ‘over-stress’ about assignments and tests myself. Remembering to value my blessings far more than counting my worries helps me to put everything in a better perspective and regain balance.

I am so glad to know that this post was helpful to you! ~Thank you so very much for commenting! 🙂
