I remember some years ago when I wanted to lose weight after the birth of my second child. Information was not as accessible as it is now. It was difficult to find the resources I needed to create a plan to manage my health. There was no other option than to make countless trips to my primary care physician, specialists, nutritionists, and fitness coaches. Those appointments were not only time-consuming, but also very costly. Eventually I was forced by my schedule and my bank account to stop going.
.
Fast forward 17 years, and things are much different now. This time around with my mission to get healthy, I use my cell phone to help me with all that I need to manage my nutrition and exercise. With the evolution of digital technology, I now use a multitude of devices as well as my my phone to access to a wealth of health and wellness information anytime and anywhere. Plus, I receive tips and health-related reminders through the use of apps and other digital-based programs.
Digital Health Technology
Having health management information in the palm of my hand is the perfect solution for my busy lifestyle. And I am so glad to see The Aetna Foundation creating new ways for people to keep their health on track via the use of digital technology. Their new Digital Health Initiative supports improved health and wellness by working in partnership with health care organizations, regional hospitals and grassroots interventions on a community level in an effort to utilize available technology to impact health across the nation. With so many people already using their cell phones to look up health information (like I do), the goal of the initiative is to take what is already being done to a higher level by delivering powerful wellness management tools directly to the communities where they are needed most, providing real-time health solutions that fit easily into daily lives.
And that is just the beginning. With their three-year commitment to digital health, the Aetna Foundation will use implementation and evaluation of technology innovations to help address public health concerns to build a world of better health.
Digital Health Technology
From neighborhood churches and community center programs to on-the-go apps for personalized illness management, technology can be very central to tracking and monitoring health and wellness these days. With programs such as the Digital Health Initiative from the Aetna Foundation, people like me can be confident that the tools and support that I need in order to achieve a healthier lifestyle will always meet me right where I am.
