
I have been very lucky this winter season! So far, I have not gotten a cold or the flu. My children have managed to dodge getting sick, too! It is so true that nothing is more disruptive to your life than when you catch the flu or a cold. Although you have done your best to avoid people that are sick, have increased your vitamin C intake and gotten a flu shot, you are still at risk for illness during the winter season. The flu shot can only offer you some immunity to reduce your chances of falling ill with the virus. Before you decide to try and power through your illness, it is important for you take some time to baby your body so that your health improves. You don’t have to stop everything that you are doing cold turkey. However, you do need to listen to your body, get more rest and try some home remedies.
While you should not believe or try everything that you hear, some cold and flu remedies are very beneficial and can help to keep your illness from becoming worse.

I don’t know if it was coincidence or not, but when I was sick last week, I drank lots of vitamin C water and I got better much faster than I ever had in the past.
Interesting … I have tried gargling with salt water – it always makes me GAG! But then I feel a little better.

This is a great post. I have had three colds already this winter. I get my flu shot every year and i believe it has really helped.
When cold and flu season hits we hit the Orange Juice, Garlic and tea with honey. Honesty, I also have a honey homeopathic cough sryrup I use for the kids on occasion if it is too bad. Otherwise, I am all about just eating the right mix of foods and drink for a natural boost.
Got my shot this year. First time in many years I have.
I’ve heard too that there’s no cure, just ways to relieve them (flu and cold). I appreciate those ways to relieve them too. 😉

I’m right in the middle of a cold, so I need to keep in mind how important drinking water is. I don’t have any home remedies but I sure wish I did.
My mother-in-law, step mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt-in-law and various other folks in my husbands family are nurses. My father-in-law and husband are respiratory therapists. There is never a end to the free medical advice I get when somethings going wrong with hubs, me or kiddo.
We have been sick constantly lately. We are actually sick right now but trying to stay rested and hydrated!

Great information – the part about antibiotics especially. It drives me nuts when I hear of people taking them because they have a cold. Hydration is such an underrated thing also. Drink water!
