Interview: Tia Mowry Talks New Projects, Busy Mom Life, and How She Keeps Her Family Healthy

Tia Mowry does it all. From balancing her career as an actress and author, to playing her most important role as a mom, Tia has learned a thing or two about managing a hectic life while making the time to care for her family. And like many moms, that includes efforts to help keep them healthy.

Tia’s not the only mom that is at the helm of the health of her family. In fact, approximately 80 percent of family healthcare decisions are made by moms.

Tia knows that with so much on their plate, moms can use every ounce of help they can get to ensure that their family stays healthy – especially during cold and flu season. Through a new campaign, “Mom ‘Nose’ Best,” Tia will help educate families about the severity of influenza, and the importance of annual vaccination – the single best way to help prevent the flu, as part of a family’s overall flu prevention strategy.

Knowing the flu can have a serious impact on the entire family, Tia is excited to share monthly tips with information and resources that can help other fellow moms and families throughout the flu season. In addition to healthy eating, hand washing and keeping away from crowds during peak cold/flu season, Tia’s other tips include:

.

  • How to check for local influenza activity utilizing the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s free influenza tracker
  • The best time of day to make doctor’s appointments to avoid crowded waiting rooms and germs
  • Essential household areas to disinfect that are frequently used and often carry germs

.

The flu is a contagious disease that can cause mild to severe illness, and in some cases, can lead to serious complications, hospitalization, or even death. In fact, each year 5 to 20 percent of the US population contracts the flu, which results in over 44 million days of lost productivity. As such, the US Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC) recommends that everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine each year.
