This Surprising Health Study Made Me Change My Protein Habits for Good

Protein has a plethora of benefits. It helps to maintain and rebuild muscle mass as we get older. It aids in satisfying hunger, which helps us to avoid unhealthy eating habits. Protein is a vital key to healthy hair, skin, nails, and even bones. It’s also auspicious to weight management and to healthy metabolism.

 

With so many benefits, it doesn’t make sense that adults aren’t getting the amount that they need – including myself. Learning more about protein and understanding its value was a huge eye-opener to me. It inspired me to get a better understanding of my own unique protein needs.

 

 

Looking in the Mirror: Evaluating My Own Relationship with Protein 

As I mentioned before, research shows the importance of high-quality proteins (that provide all nine essential amino acids) in the adult diet to help support overall health, especially with age.

 

While I knew that protein was essential, I was totally unaware of the increased recommendations of protein in older adults. Now that I am nearing 45 years old, I had to sit down and reevaluate my self-care needs, my daily diet, and all the ways that I was missing out on protein.

 

It is oftentimes challenging for me to get the proper amount of protein in my meals because I am always on-the-go. From driving my kids to and from school, to running household errands, to long to-do lists, most days are nonstop with little-to-no breaks in between.
