I know that I have said it here before, but my Husband is the best. I could not have asked for a better spouse for myself and father for my children. He does so much, and sacrifices a lot just so that our family can be happy.

His twenty year career of being a firefighter has called for plenty of sacrifices through the years. Missing out on Holidays because he had to work happens many times – sometimes even several years in a row. There have even been times when the family and I have traveled to the firehouse to spend the holiday with him, only for the alarm bell to sound, indication that he has to leave to go fight a fire.

I can remember holidays where he was at home, and we were all enjoying the holiday celebrations and family activities. My husband would suddenly get called on his phone by the chief to report to work because of a big fire or the department being short-staffed. It would pain us to see him go, and he would hate to go. However, we all knew that sacrificing time with family on the holidays was a part of his job.

The most phenomenal part is that through it all, he never complains. And I never complain either. I am very fortunate to have a husband that is honorable and hard-working, and proudly serves the need of our community.  Instead of being frustrated or angry, I appreciate all that his firefighting career entails – even the sacrifices that he makes to work and serve others during the holidays. His dedication and passion for his job – as well as his family – is highly commendable.

It is for this and many other reasons that my husband is my hero. This Thanksgiving – and every day – I am very thankful for him. I love him with all of my heart, and I feel so blessed to have him in my life. He is truly a great man.

Honestly, that is what the spirit of Thanksgiving is all about. It is about taking the time to not only tell someone that you are thankful for them, but to also show them in a special way. And when you have a person in your family or community who has to sacrifice time with their loved ones and miss out on the tradition of a Thanksgiving family meal in order to serve the public, they are the ones who need an expression of thankfulness more than anyone else.

Submissions must be received by November 15th 2015. Finalists will be announced November 17th 2015, after which the public will have a chance to vote for their favorites through November 20th 2015.
