My daughter Lady T is usually a bookworm (just like Mom! 🙂 ). When she entered junior high this year, I was not surprised when she signed up for the school’s reading club. However, I was shocked when she came to me and said that she wanted to try out for team sports. Since the rest of us in the family are pretty athletic, I was thrilled to see her enthusiasm to add sports to her list of personal interests!
.
.
Since this is her first crack at team sports, I want her to have the best experience possible. Having gone through the process before with my oldest daughter, I know that when it comes to supporting girls vs. boys in team sports, the two are not totally equal. There are a few key ways to support your teen daughter—especially when they are trying sports for the first time—that will not only guarantee her success, but also strengthen your mother/daughter bond.
.
.
Encourage Extra Practices Outside Of Team Scheduling
When Lady T told me that she made the girls soccer team, the first step I took (besides updating the family calendar with game times) is set blocks of time to take her to the park on weekends so that she could practice in a place away from the pressures of the coach and other teammates. Doing so gives her an environment where she can go at her own pace, and feel comfortable when making mistakes.
.
Plus, although I did not play soccer, her big sister did when she was in school. I remember some of the tips that were given from the coach, and I pass those along to Lady T. It is a great time for just the two us to be together and share not just soccer tips, but whatever else may be going on in our respective worlds.
.
Attend Every Game – Be Your Daughter’s Biggest Cheerleader
A Mother’s love and support tops no other. And that is especially true for teen girls are active in team sports. Show your teen daughter that you are her number one fan by wearing the team colors, buying the team merchandise, and making sure that your calendar is clear to be present at every game. Cheer her on from the stands when the team is winning, and give her encouragement when things are not going their way. Most importantly, whether win or lose, when the game ends, be waiting for her with the biggest smile and the warmest, tightest hug.

Give Your Daughter Everything She Needs To Feel Confident
A great way to help your teen daughter feel confident while being active in team sports is to equip her with the essentials that will benefit her active lifestyle. For example, I never want my daughter to have to worry about anything while being on the go to soccer games and practices—especially feminine hygiene. So I get her the Playtex® Sport® Combo Packs from Walmart.
.
.
.
The Playtex® Sport® Combo Packaging is more convenient for her because they combine Playtex® Sport® tampons and their new line of liners together in one box. The FlexFit™ liners are designed to twist and turn with her body, providing sport level protection, while the Qwik-Dry™ technology keeps her dry and fresh by pulling fluid quickly into the pad and locking moisture away. And while there may be odors from sweating, feminine oder is something she will never have to worry about with Playtex® Sport’s Odor Shield™ technology, which helps neutralize odors before they start. Keeping a package in her team locker will ensure that her period will not interfere with her quest of being a soccer champion.
.
.
.
Lady T is showing great progress with soccer so far! She says that she loves playing with the team. She also loves the new Playtex® Sport® Combo Packaging because it is so much easier to have with her in her sports bag. Plus, the liners and tampons are very comfortable, which helps her focus on doing her best while out on the field. She feels that she is always fit to play because of it, and I could not be happier.
.
.
Supporting a teen daughter in team sports can be a real adventure. As long as I do all that I can as a parent to be there for her every step of the way, I know that she will always feel empowered to be her absolute best in her newly-active lifestyle. As a Mom, I could not ask for anything more.
.

I think it’s really important to give them time to practice outside of normal team practice times. That way the can isolate exactly what they want to work on.
I agree that setting up practice time away from the rest of the team is a great idea. Sometimes the ability to perfect skills without worrying about how others will react is a blessing.
Those are great tips! They can even be applied to boys. Like the tip of giving them practice outside of normal team practice time we do.
