The Christian Hip Hop rapper is the proud ‘First Lady’ of Reach Records. Regularly sharing spiritual motivation and witticisms on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, Wande has made it her personal mission to use her music and platform to empower women to be bold in their faith while pursuing their goals.
“My faith is the core of my music, it’s the reason behind what I do,” says Wande. “To me, it’s about doing what I’m called to do. I’m just going to focus on that.”
Authenticity is another theme that flows through Wande’s work. From her music to her style, the Nigerian-born Texas-raised rapstress does not shy away from showcasing the beauty and richness of her culture. “I realize there’s power in my name so rather than trying to Americanize it, I fully embrace that part of my identity,” Wande says.
Nowhere is this more evident than in the first single and video release from #Exit, entitled ‘Happy.’
Aesthetically pleasing with breathtaking natural imagery and amazing choreography, the video is absolute Wande expressing a woman of faith’s emotional identity in reference to who Christ is. The message is reminiscent of being in dry places of our lives but still worshipping God in spirit and truth, waiting for Him to fill us up again.
With a wide range of stylistic capability, and cultural richness to draw from one thing is certain; Wande is a refreshing Godly female voice in the hip hop world who’s poised to become a uniquely uplifting and unstoppable force.
