Speak It, Declare It, Decree It: Owning the Power to Control Our Day
What are your first thoughts when you wake up in the morning? Do you stress out about your to-do list? Do you dread going to work or school? Do you anticipate the day being hectic or crazy because of everything that you have going on in your life?
.
If you answered “yes” to any of the above, trust me when I tell you that you are not alone.
.
In fact, this is something that I sometimes struggle with myself.
.
Every day when I wake up, a million thoughts flood my head all at once: thoughts about my schedule, short-and long term things needed to be done, etc. And I admit that when this happens, there is an air of disheartenment that sets in for me. I start thinking about how crazy the day is going to be before I even get out of the bed to begin it.
.
But how do I know if the day is going to be crazy if it hasn’t even started yet?
.
And…..
.
With that type of thinking, what or who am I surrendering my power over the day to??? (!!!!)
.
Regardless of what may come our way: problems, disagreements, chaos, or anything—we own the power to control our day, and it all begins with the mindset we have the moment we open our eyes. Surrendering to the negative thoughts is the same as giving that power away—something that we most definitely should not do.
.
Even when things happen that are really bad, we can still opt to remain positive and find something—no matter how small it is—to say that at least a portion of our day was still good. We refuse to let anything or anyone steal our joy.
.
It is all in what we choose when our day begins—and even what we choose as the day progresses.
.
.
Own your power! Speak it, declare it, decree it— that every day will be a good day!

This post had so many good ideas and motivations. We should control our day. Music is such a powerful force to uplift and motivate us. I think I am going to change my alarm clock tone so that I get woken up by a song that inspires me. My teenie bopper always says your ring tone and alarm tone should be songs that make you feel better and she is right! Thanks for the reminder.
Greetings Janeane! Thank you so much! I am a huge believer that what we wake up to in the morning truly sets the tone for the rest of the day, so i would have to agree with your daughter on this one! lol I am glad that you enjoyed this Music Mondays selection and post, and I appreciate you sharing here with me! 🙂
Loved this post, Makeba! It speaks volumes about the importance of owning one’s self. We always have the power to adorn the attitude we want to send out into the word. And that power should never be given away freely. It came with a price, and so it should only be given to those who are willing to pay what we have paid to take that power back. Well done, Chica! 🙂
P.S. I ove Janeane Davis’s tennie bopper’s reason behind selecting our ring tones and alarm tone. Beautifully stated! 😉
I meant “love” instead of ove. 😀
