In the midst of going through difficult times, what is it that kept R&B singer Brandy from walking away from her career altogether?

 .

The answer: having the knowledge of her obligations.

 .

As many know, Brandy has dealt with some turbulent times both professionally and personally in previous years. At one moment things became so overwhelming for her that she almost quit the music industry for good.

 .

“There were times when I tried to come back and it didn’t work. Then I started to feel like, maybe this is not my purpose, maybe this is not what I’m supposed to do, because it’s not happening to me” [CNN]

“People are calling me a has-been, people are calling me washed-up and all these things…that starts to effect you mentally a little bit because you’re like, ‘Am I? Do I still have it?” [CNN]

Even as she was on the verge of giving up on herself, she knew deep down inside that doing such a thing was unacceptable. Why? Because she remembered these words:

 

 

 

Brandy has fought her way through all that has happened in her 33 years of life to make a comeback in the music industry. Her newest release entitled “Two-Eleven” is already receiving a wealth of positive reviews and looks promising to be a chart-topping album, already gaining huge popularity with only the first few singles.

Brandy is a reminder of what no one should ever forget. There is great inspiration and power that can be found in her return to music, and I want to share it with you:

Remember this: times may get tight, life may get rough, people may dismiss you, your efforts may seem to consistently fall apart…….but if it is something that are passionate about—something that you undoubtedly know has been placed inside of you to do:

You Always Always Always owe it to yourself to keep trying

 .

Take the words in the picture above and write them down. Make Post-It notes with these words and place them everywhere: on your bathroom mirror, on your car’s dashboard, on your work desk—anywhere and everywhere that you can think of. Say it to yourself over and over until it sinks into your mind and resonates in your spirit. Repeat it to yourself often throughout each day. Speak it until you believe it—and each moment thereafter.

Not matter what lies ahead in your life, you have an obligation to keep trying. Brandy never forgot it – and neither should you.
