Preparing Your Home For Winter On Any Budget (Infographic)

Winter is fast approaching! Heating costs can take a huge bite out of your family budget! Whether you own your home or rent, there are lots of measure that you can take in preparing your home for winter on any budget to help keep heating bills down.

If you are a homeowner and have a few extra dollars to spare, upgrading to newer windows and doors and adding insulation inside of walls of drafty areas can be very beneficial. If you are a renter or money is tight, products like caulk, door strips, outlet insulation, window plastic, and even floor rugs in drafty areas can decrease the amount of cold air flowing into your home. All of these are fairly inexpensive. You can do them yourself and they can be applied in only a few minutes.

I am currently in the process of doing this within my home, too. My best piece of advice is to always check for drafts on windy days. Checking on days where there’s cold temperatures but no wind may result in several drafts and open areas being overlooked. (trust me – I learned this one the hard way! 🙂 )
