Take a Look at This New (and Creative) Online Resource for People with IBS

IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) is a condition that often flies under the radar. It isn’t something to brag about because of the nature of the syndrome. It causes abdominal pains, irregular bowel habits, and plenty of frustration-so much so that people who suffer from IBS are often too embarrassed to talk about it or even report it to their doctors. Yet these people are out there, among you, right next to you.
My soon-to-be 20 year-old son also has IBS and while it was discovered and diagnosed when he had to be rushed to the emergency room, he too feels uncomfortable talking about it.

I can’t imagine him living day to day frustrated and in pain because of something that he didn’t even understand. Thinking about the many people who do breaks my heart. But enough is enough.
People with IBS deserve to have their voices heard and they can do so through the Picture My IBS initiative.

Picture My IBS, created by the American College of Gastroenterology, aims to help those with IBS find a more comfortable way to share their pains, frustrations, and feelings to loved ones, friends, and doctors as well as with other IBS patients letting each person know that they are not alone.

This initiative allows offers a way for people to express their feelings about IBS and the effect that it has had on their lives by creating art. A painting, sculpture, drawing- any kind of art work can be submitted.
While the initiative is mainly to help with IBS awareness, it also offers participants a chance at a trip to New York city with a stay in luxury hotel. Five honorable mention winners will receive $100 American Express gift card and all winners will have their art featured on the Picture My IBS Website.
