National Wear Red Day is Friday Feb. 3 – Support Women’s Heart Health with ShopHeart American Heart Association’s Online Store

National Wear Red Day® brings urgent awareness to women’s No. 1 health threat.

Despite the devastating impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, heart disease remains the leading killer of women in the U.S., according to the American Heart Association. At the same time, the youngest, most diverse women are the least aware that cardiovascular disease (CVD) is their greatest health threat.

The American Heart Association is calling on people everywhere to spread awareness of the sobering fact that 1 in 3 women are dying from cardiovascular disease. One in three may not sound like a lot, but it’s not three other women – you could be the one.

It’s our mothers, our grandmothers, aunts, sisters, colleagues, classmates, neighbors, and best friends. Imagine your life with one-third of these women gone. It is an experience I know all too well.

When my mother died unexpectedly of heart disease in 1990, it changed my life forever. I was 15 years old and had to suddenly figure out how to navigate the rest of my life without her. It was also a huge wake-up call for me to be more proactive about my health, and to do more to inform and inspire others about the importance of living a heart-healthy lifestyle.

Like me, so many people are losing the women they love to heart disease every day. But we can change that because 80 percent of cardiac events can be prevented with education, awareness, and lifestyle changes.

On National Wear Red Day®, February 3, 2023, everyone is encouraged to “wear red and give” as part of the American Heart Association’s signature movement, Go Red for Women®, nationally sponsored by CVS Health.
