3 Easy Self-Care Strategies For Busy Schedules

During the month of July, we focused on the importance of balance and connection for the mind, body, and soul. Because there were several topics that I did not get to cover, I am continuing this focus into the month of August to run in conjunction with our new focus. Upon the introduction of it, I think that you will see how they tie in together.

 Simplify Your Life Week

We are starting with ‘National Simplify Your Life’ week, which runs August 1st through August 7th. It is a time to brainstorm and apply new ways of making things easier for yourself in order to life your very best life. And since we are still discussing issues of the mind, body, and soul, let’s unpack and the topic of self-care and make it uncomplicated.

It used to be that taking care of ourselves was an effortless feat, and finding the time and physical and mental energy to take care of others was a challenge. Nowadays, it seems that times have reversed. More and more people place themselves on the backburner to provide the needs of someone else and struggle to find the time for self-care. And while it is true that the world has changed and this shift in ‘care’ is a part of the change, there are still a balance that can happen between the two. With the right strategies, caring for self can be as natural as running to the aid of others.

Here are 3 strategies to simplify your life in the area of self-care:

*Get A Little Creative

A loaded daily schedule can usually scream ‘no time for me’ in just thinking about it, but it doesn’t have to be that way. While the traditional means of ‘down time’ might not be an option, there are still ways to get your self-care in creatively. Invest in some mini-massagers or other travel-size pampering items. Steal away into a bathroom for a few moments for some solitude. Meditate while you’re in waiting areas such as the doctor’s office, airports, etc (yes, it’s possible!). Purchase some mood-boosting foods to have on hand during your day. When it comes to taking care of yourself, a little creativity goes a long way.

This one seems to be the hardest one to do. Your body doesn’t lie: it will signal to you when you need to slow down. Even if you’re out and about or knee-deep into your to-do list, when you feel your gut instinct—or as some say, your ‘first mind’—hinting to take a break, do it: no if’s, and’s or buts. It will save you (and everyone around you) a world of stress and pressure.

*Make It Happen On The Go

Just about every type of service you can imagine now has a ‘house call’ option. Massage therapists, nail techs, even physicians and specialists can come to where you are. Take some time to do some research for the ones providing mobile services in your area (or the area you plan to be in) and get your pampering into your day with minimal interruption of your busy schedule.

Simplifying your self-care by broadening your mind to the ‘when’s, what’s, and how’s’ of it can really make your life much easier.  Commit yourself to putting the above strategies into practice, and you will definitely be placing yourself on the right track to doing self-care better.

Great post, it is important for you to take the time to pamper yourself occasionally. I try to make sure that I take care of myself because if I over do it then I am down for the count.

I do need to do better. I am trying to listen more to my insticts. Right now they are telling me to get more sleep.
