Nutritionist Michelle Dudash Offers Summer Nutrition Tips For Busy Families
Healthy nutrition is vital for childhood development. The proper amount of calories and nutrients are essential for them to function at an optimum level. But many students will miss out on these necessary building blocks during the summer months when schools are closed and lose access to free or reduced-price milk programs. More than 22 million kids may be at risk.
This summer, Feeding America and America’s dairy farmers and milk companies are helping to bring more fresh, nutritious milk to children in need in communities across the country. Milk is one of the most requested items by food bank clients year-round, and especially during the summer when kids are missing out on nutritious meals provided through in-school meal programs. But on average, food banks are only able to provide the equivalent of less than one gallon of milk per person per year. That’s because while Americans are generous with canned and dry goods, many don’t think to donate milk because it’s perishable.
Americans across the country can help power the play of kids in their local communities this summer with a small donation at milklife.com/give. Just $5 will deliver a gallon of milk to a local family through the Feeding America nationwide network of food banks.
Nutritionist Michelle Dudash, author of the best-selling cookbook, ‘Clean Eating for Busy Families,’ joined me recently to share more about the Feeding America initiative, as well offer summer nutrition tips for busy families.

Meet Our Guest:

Hi Melisa,
I just watched the video you shared here…We give to our food bank regularly and our church has programs where low income families can get fruits and veggies so they can have a balanced meal.
I love the idea of the milk program. I would love to participate in that.
Thank you Melisa for sharing. Hope you’re having a great day.
