Music Mondays: Mary Mary Offers Advice on Having Your Best Year Ever

The year 2011 was a challenging one for many people.  Seeming to have been filled with more downs than ups, the non-stop roller coaster ride of life events triggered many mindsets to spiral downward; losing all hope and faith that goals would ever be accomplished, destinies would ever be fulfilled, and dreams would ever come true.  Sometimes it seemed as if even the simplest of ideas were shattered before they got a chance to materialize.  With everything that happened in 2011, is there any reason to believe that 2012 will be any better?

 .

Of course there is! 🙂

 .

2012 can be your best year ever. And whether you believe it or not, you hold the power within you to make it so.  In the midst of dealing with day-to-day life, it can be so easy to place your dreams on the ‘waitlist’ of your mind, using past regrets, current life situations, or skepticism from others—or yourself–as reasons why you should put off or abandon pursuing what you want. However, it is important to remember that the arrival of a new year operates like a clean slate—a fresh start of time that has been gifted to you to use as a means for a new beginning.  And the key to making the most out of your new beginning is remembering that in order to work your plan, you must first plan your work—that “best” is not defined by the speed of crossing the finish line, but by the personal growth and lessons learned during the journey.

.

This is the advice that is shared by artists Mary Mary in their songs, “Get Up” and “Slow Walk”.  Both are full of empowerment and serve as reminders that if we want the new year to be far better than the previous one, we must get going, put our fears and uncertainties aside and remind ourselves that we are capable of achieving anything that we set our minds and determinations to if we utilize the time that has been gifted to us wisely. We are capable of ensuring that in 2012 we indeed have our best year ever!

Good day Makeba, Awesome message, my friend. I can totally relate to your message of hope here. I, like so many other’s are right now, used to go through each year expecting for it not to be any greater or any worse than the year before. The lack of expectation and also lack of action on my part would provide me with the exact thing I would come to look for in my life… which was nothing. As a matter of fact, thinking back over my life and the good that became available to me; this would only happen if… Read more »

Greetings: You hit the nail right on the head with this!! The mind is so very powerful–and we must always keep in mind that if want want only greatness to come to us in our lives, then we must expect only greatness–nothing less. Like you said, if we go on from year to year with the same thoughts and feelings of what and how life is going to be for us, then we will never progress; we’ll never grow. We each have the power within us to turn our thinking around and our expectations–all we have to do is make… Read more »

Great song choices, Makeba! I’m a big Mary Mary fan.

If we’re not intentional about corralling our thoughts so that they lead to intentional words and actions, we can find ourselves in the same rut one year later. Grateful for another year in which to align my thoughts and words with the dreams and plans God’s planted in me for this new year. “Community” is the word that springs to mind most of all. We grow through community, bonding with others as we achieve our goals!
