Music Mondays: Lessons from Nickelback on Maximizing the Moment

We all have our moments when life seems to be moving so fast that we find ourselves day after day putting things off until another day and time. Sometimes even the things that we say are most important to us we oftentimes delay. Why? Because we have been conditioned to know without a shadow of a doubt that tomorrow is coming—that the next day, next month, and even next year are all guaranteed to us.

However, as much as we want to believe this, nothing could be further from the truth.

No matter who you are, no matter your position, age, life status or conditions, we should never take any day that we have for granted. We must begin operating in the act of maximizing every moment that has been given to us. The time is not tomorrow, but today is the time to develop a habitual cycle of acting and planning; planning and acting. Above all, we must prioritize and place emphasis on the goals, activities, people, and things that matter most to us. Tomorrow–or even the rest of the day–is not promised.

This lesson is the driving force behind the song “If Today Was Your Last Day” by Rock band Nickelback.  With questions that challenge and calls to action, both the song and video showcase the importance of stepping out of the comfort zone of yesterday, while being mindful of the fact that there may not be a tomorrow. The result is a message that speaks volumes on the value of time—a message that anyone can apply to their own lives right where they are.
