5 Ways to Learning the Art of Self-Love

For this week’s Music Mondays, I shared what it means to experience true happiness in life. Although there are many components involved that help to create this happiness, one of the most crucial is the art of Self-Love..

There is no doubt about it: to love yourself—I mean really love yourself—is a very beautiful thing. Self-love can make you smile in times when you want to cry, and be courageous in times of fear. Most of all, it can fill you with confidence during times of doubt. For many of us, self-love is not something that we were born with or even taught during our childhood. Rather it is an art that, like any other form of art, must be learned and cultivated over time. However once we have it, it is like a precious gem: we never want to lose it or let it go.

 .

Here are 5 ways to learning (or improving) the art of loving yourself:

 .

Develop a full awareness of your God-given talents. Believe in your gifts and in yourself—especially when no one else seems to. Protect your gifts: never put them at risk of being taken advantage of, abused, misused, or ridiculed. Embrace them and ensure that you operate in them every single day.

Self-love

Understand your value, and never be afraid to declare it. Work to mold the standard for who you are and for the regard in which you want to be held by yourself as well as by others. Realize how special you are and that your uniqueness is an integral part of your value and your gifts. Use this realization to solidify your place in the world (or to give your all in trying to find it).

 .

Become a student of life. Always explore and do research in order to learn more about the essence of who you are. Challenge and develop yourself; and be ever-evolving. Get into the habit of communicating your life changes both verbally and nonverbally. Never sweat the material things or relationships lost while on your journey of personal growth.

Self-love

Be in-tune, attentive, and responsive to your body. Care for yourself both inside and out: but especially on the inside. Do all of the things that are necessary for your physical, mental, and emotional health. Constantly strive to eliminate any items, habits or relationships from your life that are toxic or otherwise not beneficial to you.

.

Finally, make peace with your past. Allow others to love you for the real you: everything that you are, have ever been and will be. Believe that such love is possible. Choose to accept yourself in the same way. Embrace your present, and plan for your future with great expectancy.

Self-love

Learning the art of self-love takes work and time, but it is possible. When you arrive into a complete state of loving yourself, your life will be more joyous and gratifying than it has ever been. Self-love gives you the ultimate power to truly live your best life.

This was great, Makeba! I wouldn’t have gotten half the stuff I have done without making some major corrections in the self love department. I have always been overly critical of myself, and it kept me from moving forward for most of my life. I would allow what people thought of me and my natural talents and skills to determine what I would and wouldn’t do. This was a MAJOR mistake. Mainly because when people see something in you that stands out, they often will do whatever they can to make you not be able to see it. When we… Read more »

Greetings: I am so with you on your share here! I too had to go through a process of learning to love myself in the proper way, and more importantly, to not keep my love for myself hidden from others. ~That is where the self-sabotage comes in: when we place a far higher value on the thoughts of us from others than our own feelings about ourselves. Self-love is correcting those habits and working to make sure that our thoughts are in the right order. I absolutely love your statement of: “When people see something in you that stands out,… Read more »

I think a person really loves themselves when they love others first….by putting anothers needs before your own, you become less self centered and become other centered..and the happiness that comes from giving is a happiness in your heart…. you are at such a peace with your whole self..that it becomes a self love without you even trying.

Greetings: Yes it is truly important to love others. -Stevie Wonder said it best: “Find it in your heart to love somebody–and if your heart is big enough, find it in your heart to love everybody.” What sometimes happens is that we focus so much of our efforts and energies on trying to ensure that we’re properly loving others and making sure that they know that we love them that we unknowingly either place love for ourselves on the back-burner, or we’re never aware that we have not even begun the process. In order for us to be completely whole,… Read more »

Greetings: Absolutely! There is so much treasure tied to it–so many bountiful blessings with the art of self-love. I have come to believe that it is actually a gift in disguise: one of those hidden treasures bestowed on us to be discovered and used to the fullest capacity.
