How to stay thankful during Thanksgiving season is something that a lot of folks struggle with. In most times, it carries on through Christmas and into the New Year.
It can be difficult to find joy because the everyday ins and outs of life seem to blot it out. The onset of Daylight Savings Time and colder weather means an increase in utility and clothing costs. There’s the stress of the expectations of family and friends in planning, purchasing, and creating flawless Holiday meals, events, and activities with little to no assistance or resources. Spending the Holidays with family may be a challenge or even impossible due to work, distance, or the rising costs of travel. An illness or loss of a loved one can spark an overflow of grief. A look back over the year may only find unmet goals, incomplete tasks, and unfulfilled dreams.

When you are surrounded by tough times during the Holiday season, it is an absolute must that you keep your head up. It may be hard to smile, and it may certainly be hard to be ‘merry and full of cheer.’ It may even be challenging to be around other people. And it’s okay if you can’t do any of that stuff. As long as you keep your head up no matter what. Just keep looking up, keep reminding yourself that you have much to be thankful for, and you will be alright.

If you’re telling yourself, “I don’t have anything to be thankful for,” keep these 4 simple yet powerful things in mind:
.
You’re Still Here
Inhale. Exhale. You are alive and breathing. That right there alone is a huge reason to stay thankful.
.
Your Life Could Be Worse
Take a moment and be really real with yourself. Your life may not be where you want it to be, but at least it’s not where it could be. Things could be far worse for you. Keep that thought in your mind to help you stay thankful.

Remember up above when I reminded you that you’re still alive? Don’t take it for granted. Every new day that you are still on this earth means that you have another chance for things in your life to get better.

You Are Loved
Yes, YOU. Your family may take you for granted. Your friends or clients may act ungrateful. Your boss, teachers, and others in authority may give you grief. Through all of that, know that you are always loved by those that are closest to you—even in the times when they don’t show it or say it.
