As parents, we dedicate everything to our children. We would do anything for them at any time, and go the extra mile to ensure their happiness. This sentiment especially rings true during the Holidays and winter break season.

We’re rushing around everywhere trying to play Santa; buying and wrapping all the presents and ensuring all the decorations around the home are just right. We’re arranging family travel and planning the menu and spending hours on end doing all the cooking with little-to-no help. We’re staying up late and waking up early, and spending every moment attempting to toggle between keeping the festivities on schedule and keeping everyone happy and entertained during the days that they’re out of school.

It is a lot. So much so that there’s very little time to take for ourselves. Yet we need alone time to stay sane during the season.

I may not have an hour or two to watch a movie or catch up on my favorite TV shows. I may be too exhausted to bundle up, warm up the car and go outdoors. But there is one way I can take time to myself with minimal time and effort needed—which is playing a few rounds of Solitaire.

I love to play solitaire. Over the years, playing solitaire with actual cards certainly took me away for a time, which prompted me to switch to desktop solitaire, but the emergence of game apps changed that, allowing for shorter, quicker bursts of solitude.

There are many solitaire apps available and after trying many of them, my favorite has become Solitaire by MobilityWare. One reason why I love MobilityWare’s app is because they also produced the desktop game that I loved so much so once I found that they produced an app, it was an easy choice. The mobile app has great game play as well as many in-game activities.

An aspect that I love are the daily challenges, which are different every day. If the day’s challenge is solved, you receive a crown, which are converted into trophies as you earn more and more. As you earn crowns and trophies, your status in the game goes up. The daily challenges are a good amount of fun and challenge, but they also remind me to take some time to myself every day, especially in the thick of the Holiday season where more time than usual is dedicated to the kids.

Speaking of the Holiday season, the app features fun themes, including seasonal and Holiday, sports, and even custom- allowing you to use your own pictures. It’s like my own little way of enjoying some winter cheer of my own!

Now, I usually play Solitaire alone, as the name entails, but MobilityWare’s app allows for users to challenge other users in real time. The app deals the same hand to both players so they can compete against each other at the same time. You can encourage your friends to play, and compete against them or chose to play against random players from around the world. The app is compatible with Apple Watch, and even has iMessage stickers for texting.
