Expert Advice: How to Avoid Work from Home Burnout
Burning the midnight oil isn’t a new phenomenon, but as so much of the country has shifted away from a clock-out workday in favor of flexible schedules, American workers are finding themselves strapped for time and under even more stress.
Those are just some of the findings of a recent study by Adobe on how COVID has changed the way small business leaders and their employees are spending their time, and how they’re feeling about it. Among some of the startling findings: of those working longer hours than they’d like, two-thirds of small business leaders say they’re working MORE than they were before the pandemic, making the 9-5 workday a thing of the past.
These numbers are even higher among minority-owned businesses, with 67% of owners feeling more stretched for time at work (compared to 52% of non-minority owners) and 64% (vs. 46%) reporting that the stress of keeping their business afloat carries over into their personal lives.
And Gen-Z employees? Well, they’re just leaving. More than half polled plan to pursue a new job within the next year – more than any other generation.
So, how should small business owners and leaders respond to this crisis while protecting their valuable companies and employees yet still maintain or increase productivity AND make their own work lives better?
