Event Recap: Domestic Violence Awareness with HopeLine from Verizon Wireless
Domestic violence affects one in four women, one in nine men and more than 3 million children in the United States. Most people think only of physical abuse alone when they consider domestic violence. However financial abuse happens in 98% of all cases of domestic violence and is one of the most powerful ways to keep a victim trapped. In fact, financial abuse is just as effective in controlling an abused victim as a lock and key.
Such abuse and control can come in the form of cutting off contact with family members and loved ones who may be able to help the victim with a way out by confiscating or disconnecting the victim’s cell phone service. Experiencing these actions can make a victim feel isolated and powerless.
Fortunately, we are now in an era where women who experience domestic violence do not have to suffer in silence. Domestic violence awareness is more prevalent than ever before thanks to initiatives like HopeLine from Verizon Wireless.
HopeLine® from Verizon Wireless helps support victims and survivors of domestic violence while ensuring that phones are reused in an environmentally responsible way. People can donate no-longer-used wireless phones, batteries and accessories from any carrier in any condition, at HopeLine collection bins at Verizon retailers nationwide. The items are then refurbished, with generated proceeds donated in the form of grants to non-profit domestic violence prevention organizations across the country. However, it doesn’t stop there – HopeLine also provides new phones – complete with 3,000 minutes of wireless and text-messaging service – to domestic violence agencies or government and law enforcement agencies for use with their domestic violence clients.
In conjunction with Domestic Violence Awareness Month, Verizon is featuring several of their top-selling products for purchase in a special line-up exclusively for October. All of the items are purple, and are packaged with the HopeLine logo along with messaging about domestic violence prevention. For every purple product purchased during October, Verizon – through its HopeLine program – will make a $3 donation to Camp HOPE America, which helps victims and their children gain access to valuable services to help them heal, survive, and thrive.
I had the pleasure of viewing some of the items in the line-up at a private fashion and domestic violence awareness night event hosted by Verizon in partnership with Laurie Solet.

The LG TonePro premium wireless headset was one of several HopeLine Accessories on display

I also got an up-close look at the Moto Z Droid Edition and Moto Z Force Droid Edition phones during the event.
.
Exclusive to Verizon, the Moto Z Droid Edition and Moto Z Force Driod Edition work with the Moto Mod system, and offer distinct design and features that can be tailored to any lifestyle.

Moto Mods snap onto the phone to make it usable as a wireless speaker with the JBL SoundBoost Speaker, and even a portable theater with the Moto Insta-Share Projector.
.
The Moto Insta-Share Projector was used to share a video by Pro football player William Gay, sharing his personal story of how domestic violence has impacted his life (as shown in the image above). Below is the video in its entirety.

Additionally, Verizon representatives were on hand to share a few remarks regarding Verizon’s work in St. Louis in helping organizations dedicating to helping those affected by domestic violence, as well as HopeLine’s efforts across the country.

I left the Verizon HopeLine even feeling inspired. Seeing all of the people who came together to support a single cause in one night reminded me that we are so strong and are such a powerful force that we can minimize the detrimental effects of domestic violence on a national scale. We can all help ensure domestic violence victims have the help and resources they need to break free from abusive and volatile situations.
I stand with HopeLine from Verizon to continue to raise awareness efforts for domestic violence. Let’s do our part to stand up for survivors and the organizations that serve them to make a difference.

I love this. It’s a shame that we still need something like this, but I love it. Domestic violence is real. It’s dangerous. It’s deadly. We need more awareness of the issue.
Sounds like such a great thing that Verizon is doing. Domestic Violence is an epidemic in this country and is not taken seriously enough.
I think this is a great way to help people who are suffering from domestic violence. Having outside communication is really important. Thank you Verizon.
I love that Verizon helps people who are affected by domestic violence. It’s more common than we think it is, sadly.
I love that Verizon is doing something like this. It’s so unfortunate domestic violence isn’t taken as seriously as it should be!
What a wonderful initiative to raise awareness about such a crucial subject. I plan to check out the exclusive product line.
Domestic Violence is such a horrible thing! I’m so glad that people like Verizon are working to raise awareness! Sounds like it was a great event!
Hope Line is an amazing charity and I am glad to see Verizon Wireless being a partner for such a great cause.
I think domestic violence sometimes gets overlooked as a situation where someone needs help. These are usually the victims that can’t cry out for help for various reasons. I am glad that Verizon has this program.
What a great program! My mom suffered through some horrendous domestic violence back in the 80’s, well before cell phones were the norm. I wish this would have been around then. Maybe she would have gotten out of the relationship much sooner if so.
I had no idea Verizon did this! What an amazing cause, it makes me love them even more. I will b donating my old phone accessories now that I know this.
This is awesome! I love that Verizon is supporting this campaign. And being on that event is really inspiring!
Thanks to Verizon for pushing awareness and reaching out for the welfare of the victims of domestic violence. I will help spread the word and let my friends and family know about how we can help. Thanks for the heads up.
That is so cool that Verizon is doing that! Good for them!
1 in 4 women? That is a very scary statistic. Wow, I had no idea. This is wonderful that Verizon is doing this. Such an amazing and well needed cause.
That is so cool, I’m so glad that you share about this idea
This is so true about domestic violence. People always think violence is a physical thing only but I can see the huge dangers in financial violence. So happy Verizon is being a great phone carrier to help in the initiatives of domestic violence of all types. Great event recap too!
Oh, sad to know about domestic violence. This is a nice awareness campaign.
Unfortunately, it’s true. Most people don’t know the different kinds of abuse that they can experience from their spouses or partners. I think it’s great that Verizon is helping raise awareness about domestic violence.
This is such an important subject. Cheers to Verizon for hosting this meaningful event. I was just talking to my daughter about domestic abuse just minutes before I commented in this post. Such great timing!
This looked like such a wonderful event and for a super important awareness! Big ups to Verizon on partnering on this!
I’d go in a heartbeat to support causes like this. This is why I love Verizon more than any other carrier or company.
