The Ins and Outs of DIY Flooring Renovation: Key Things to Consider

For those of you who don’t know, my family and I are in the process of renovating our home, one room at a time. One of the most important things to consider when renovating whether to do a DIY flooring renovation, or take advantage of professional flooring services. Additionally, because flooring can really make a difference in a room, finding the right floor can be arduous.

I recently had flooring professionally installed in my living room and foyer. I also took on the challenge of installing the flooring myself in my second floor hallway and guest bathroom in order to save money. I’ve gotta admit, process was indeed tough.

Before starting the renovation, I had to really sit down and look at each room. I had to consider the color schemes and the furniture to get a good idea of what color the floors should be. I then had to consider the many different floor types there are out there and which ones would best complement each room.

For me and my family, one of the tougher choices was carpet or hardwood in the living room? Carpet is safer for the kids to play on but hardwood is easier to clean (and is so gorgeous!) Based on my excitement you’d be right if you thought we went with hardwood flooring. We really like how the flooring went with our furniture and the soft feel it gave the room. We decided to stay with carpet for the kids’ bedrooms to give them something comfortable and durable to play and relax on.

We have renovated 2 rooms already using third party flooring but for our next room, and the rest of our home, we plan on going to Shaw Floors. Shaw offers many new and different styles, designs and with great quality- all for great prices. The experts at Shaw Floors understand the importance of flooring in every room and they are committed to bringing the best options with the highest quality to costumers.

Shaw’s LifeGuard carpet is an option that we are heavily considering for the kids’ rooms because it was engineered for taking a beating. Take a look- {https://shawfloors.com/inspiration/special-collections/carpet-design/life-happens}. It is waterproof, stain resistant, tough, and despite all of this, it still comes in many beautiful styles, textures, and colors to fit any room. If LifeGuard does not match your family’s needs, Shaw offers plenty design tips, trends, and inspiration, all at https://shawfloors.com/inspiration.

Whether you’re doing a DIY flooring renovation like I am, or letting professionals do the work, choosing Shaw Floors will make the task much easier.

This is such great information. I’ve always said, “We can do that!” It’s more than just getting the flooring and going to town, though.

I love that you renovated your own floors! It sounds like quite a project but I bet it feels great once you’ve finished.

New flooring makes such a huge difference in the overall look of a home. We are planning to have our tile grout redone within the next few months, which I know will spruce things up a bit.

We know we’re going to have to redo our living room floor at some point. We’re not sure whether or not to extend the wood floors or go with carpet.

My grandmother worked for a company that made the fibers for carpets. She dealt with Shaw all the time!

Wow! How impressive that you renovated yourselves. When we buy our home in a few years, I will be looking at the floors for sure (one of my favorite parts of a home, believe it or not) so I’m happy I stumbled upon your article.

New flooring can really change a room. We redid our floors several years ago and it made a big difference.

Changing up flooring in a house can be a very rough decision. We like carpet for the soft look but it does get dirty and is hard to clean after a while. We reserved carpet for only the bedrooms and did scraped laminate throughout the rest of the house!

It’s never easy to renovate the flooring especially since the floor always has traffic. I think these are very good ideas and they’re definitely going to help!

Flooring designs play a big part of how your room will look like. Love these tips! Very helpful!

Changing flooring is a big renovation project. When we did our floors, we chose hardwood. Not because it is easier to clean, but because my youngest son has dust allergy and the carpet can be dusty and have other allergens in it that can trigger an attack. We asked for the services of professionals to do the job. I was not confident enough with my DIY ability. LOL.

I will have this bookmarked. Will get back if I have my own home. BTW, love the flooring!

My husband I have been talking about getting new carpet soon. We have 2 kids, 2 cats and a puppy. That goes without saying my carpet doesn’t look the greatest anymore. I will be looking into Shaw’s LifeGuard carpet. Thanks for sharing!

Our new place has wood floors and we love it. Only carpet on the stairs and in the bedrooms.

I think it’s fun to renovate. Tiring, but definitely fun. The floor is an instant pick me up if it’s done right!
