College Shopping With Sons: It’s Not As Hard As You Think

Having already sent a child to college, you would think that I would be an old pro when it comes to college shopping. However, that is definitely not the case! My first time at college shopping was over three years ago, and things are much different than they are now.

This time around with my oldest son found me looking for better options for purchasing all of his college essentials. All of the flashbacks of waiting in long lines for textbooks and school supplies at the campus bookstore and other stores was something that I did not want to experience again.

So this time, I took a different approach. My son and I went to Barnes and Noble. We were able to buy all of his required readings for his classes there in a breeze. We also picked up some school supplies, and even some books and magazines of interest for him to read while at home.

Buying everything that my son needed from Barnes and Noble was a better back to school shopping environment and experience – much better than what I went through the first time around! Plus, with the Barnes & Noble MasterCard, purchasing textbooks, books, and supplies just made it even better. I even had my son sign up for his own so that he can handle school shopping solo in the future.

The best part is whenever he needs supplies and textbooks for school, we can get 5% back when we use our Barnes & Noble MasterCard any Barnes & Noble store, online at BN.com, and even at campus Barnes & Noble bookstores.

And for moms with multiple kids in school, 5% at back-to-school time can really add up! Since the average cost for books and supplies last year was $1,225 at public colleges and $1,244 at private colleges, using the Barnes & Noble MasterCard for those purchases at campus Barnes & Noble bookstores or at BN.com could give me an immediate $60 savings! A total win-win!

Even though I know that I will be spending a significant amount of money on school supplies, textbooks and books for school during the next four years, I have peace of mind knowing that I will also be saving money along the way while ensuring my son has all that he needs for a successful school year thanks to Barnes and Noble!

My stepson is off to college and just bought all of his books over on Amazon, which is what the school requires. It was easier than the old days in the campus bookstore.

We shop at Barnes and Nobles all the time. We bought a lot of our homeschool supplies at the store and online.

Barnes and Nobles is one of the last bastions of the written word. I love to just go in there and roam.

This card sounds great! We’re all big readers in this family, so a card like this is so up our alley.

I had no idea the bookstore has a credit card. I just love a good deal. Especially since college is so expensive.

Barnes and Noble is a lot of fun to visit. You deserve an A+ for escaping the long lines at the college bookstore by getting the needed books and supplies (plus savings) at BN. Good luck to your son in his freshman year.

I love getting cash back. It’s one of the reasons we only use that card and then pay it off each month. The rewards rack up!

Luckily I have quite a few years before we have to worry about that but that doesn’t mean we wont be making visits to our favorite bookstore in the mean time!
