#BookReview: World War Me by Jamal Bryant

I must be honest with you:  this is the most powerful book that I have ever read—and I read a lot of books..

World War Me: How to Win the War I Lost is for anyone who has found themselves going through a season of life so tough that it feels as if the entire world is at war against them. It is also for those who have made mistakes in life so severe that they feel as if there is no way they can recover from them.

Penned during a season of hardship, Dr. Jamal Bryant shares his own personal stories of wrong turns, bad choices, and failures in both his professional and personal life with extreme transparency in hopes to encourage others. He not only talks about his true emotions and mindset during his time of trials, but also the extent of which he had to fight to overcome..

Dr. Bryant’s theory is that the control of emotions and the mind are very similar to that of a war. That life is not a game where you play to win, but a battle where you must fight for survival and eventually triumph. He uses the terms, operations, strategies and tactics of a military war and show how they apply to the battle of the mind, body, and spirit. Chapters like, “I’ve Been Drafted”, “Counterintelligence”, and “Assigned for Special Forces” give you an idea of the approach, yet because it is written in such a simple and conversational fashion, you know instantly that the book is not one that is merely filled with jargon, but of core-relativity and analogies designed to give the reader a better understanding for personal application.

“What the enemy tries to do….is to kidnap our thinking.  If the enemy is able to capture the mind then he has already conquered the terrain of our destiny.  You have to know that the battle you are going through right now is a battle of your mind—a battle that will control what you think.”  (JHB)

I purchased this book the day of its release, but did not get a chance to read it until the early part of last year. Coincidentally, it was during the same time that I was experiencing a personal war of my own. I know without a shadow of a doubt that had I not read this book at the time that I had, I would not have survived all that I was going through and my mindset would be significantly different than it is now. .

If you are dealing with some hardships in your life right now, struggling with the emotions and stigmas of mistakes you have made in your past, or are even unsure about how you can go forward on your life’s journey, I strongly recommend that you read this book by Jamal Bryant.  I cannot stress enough that the words are so powerful and will definitely help to gain strength and get your mind in a more hopeful and positive place. Once you’re done reading it, don’t be surprised if you find yourself carrying it with you often as a source of encouragement.
