College is a time of change and marks a period of new beginnings. My oldest son, who has entered into his first year of college a few weeks ago, is getting adjusted to those changes and beginnings. The classes are much bigger, the professors are more direct with their language and approach to teaching, and of course, there is lots – and lots – of studying and reading to do.

There is so much with college that can be overwhelming. With all that is going on, the last thing that I want my son to have to struggle with or worry about is looking and feeling his best. I want him to have confidence on campus and in the classroom. As his mom, there are things that I do to make sure of that.
First and foremost, I see to it that gets enough sleep. Having been a college student myself, I know how tempting the pressure can be to ‘finish that last chapter’ of reading, or push to do more studying for an exam. However, I also know that the mind does not function well without the proper amount of sleep. Sticking to a set bedtime regardless of the study load is very important to his success as a college student.
Next, I do what I can to ensure that he adheres to a nutritious diet. I purchase fruits and healthy snacks that he can eat in between classes while on campus. He also has a filtering water bottle to help him stay hydrated. For the breakfast and dinner he has at home, I prepare meals that are low in sodium and fat, and high in protein and other key nutrients.
When it comes to confidence, looking good is just as important as feeling good. So to help with that, I give him all of the essentials he needs to maintain a nicely groomed appearance.
