Music Mondays: Acceptance And Adoration Are Overrated: Just Be Yourself

acceptance-adoration-overrated-just-be-yourself #gavindegraw #musicmondays

During a conversation at a high-profile event recently, I was commended by a few people for having (in their words) “The realest personality in the room.” Even though I was flattered, I had to correct them in their statement:

 .

It’s not a ‘personality’ – it’s just who I am.

 .

They found my statement slightly comical, but I was being serious—and honest.

 .

See, truth be told, I really do not know how to be anything or anyone other than who and what I am.

 .

Online or offline, in a crowded room or all by myself: I am just me. Plain and simple.

.

I will never ever try to create an illusion or ‘adjust myself’ to being something or someone that I am not just to be accepted and adored by another person or group of people; a situation, an environment—anything.

 .

.

It’s just better to be yourself than to try to be some version of what you think the other person wants.”

~Actor Matt Damon

 .

“To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.”

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

 .

.

Remember this:

One of the highest obligations that you have in life is to be true to yourself. You don’t have to try so hard for people to like you, and you never have to compromise yourself to fit into a mold of something that you are not. Although it is possible that “Faking it ‘til you make it” may lead to some acceptance, adoration, and happiness, believe me when I tell you that it will be very short-lived. In the end, it is far more important for you to be known and remembered for who you really are, not for the person you gave an impression of being.

..

.

 Remember this also:

When you are real with you, then you will really like you.

And when you really like you, those that matter most will really like you, too.

 .

I totally agree with this post. What I got from your post is this: Be who you are and stay true to yourself. If someone doesn’t like it, brush it off…because there may be 10 other people who LOVE you for YOU! 🙂

Thanks for sharing Melisa!

This was a nice article about being yourself. Many people need to realize that they will never be successful being someone else, but can be themselves flawlessly.
