How To Accept When It’s Time To Let Go

“You know, sometimes we hold onto the things that God Himself is trying to tear away.”   ~Brian (character) Film: Diary of a Mad Black Woman

.

People come into our lives for 1 of 3 purposes: for a reason, for a season, or for a lesson.   Maybe it’s just me, but it seems as if those ‘season’ people—the ones that were intended by the Universe to be only for a specific and predetermined amount of time—are the most difficult. When it is time to let go, they are the ones that are the most painful to accept and to deal with.   I’ve had my fair share of relationships, friendships, and family bonds come into my life only to slowly dissipate or abruptly end. I am always left either trying to do all that I can to keep the connections intact, or bearing confused emotions with an abandoned and shattered heart.   I ask, “Was it me?” “Was it something that I did or didn’t do?” “Was I not a good enough person to make it last?”

.

.

In such scenarios, the answer is always the same: that the connection was not meant to last forever. That its season has come to its end, and it is time to let go.

.

But…………….why??

.

This question could have a number of answers. Maybe the relationship/friendship/bond was causing interference with the Universe’s grand plan of Blessings ahead. Maybe the connection was distracting from the work and progress towards dreams and goals. Maybe I was so intensely focused on loving, supporting, and elevating the other person (or people) that I began to subconsciously diminish myself. Maybe I was surrendering my spotlight to them, when they already had one of their own.   Or, maybe the person or people were placed into my life to help me throughout a certain season. And now that my season is over, the time to let go had come, and they had to move on.   One never knows. And only through true soul-searching will the answer be revealed. However, such revelation can and will never happen unless a full and total release of the person (or people) takes place.

.

Sooooooo…………………..what am I saying?

.

In some cases, fighting to keep grasp of a relationship, friendship, or bond that has reached the end of its season doesn’t yield a positive outcome—only heartache and unanswered questions.  It can be detrimental to your mental and emotional wellbeing. In other words, holding on when it’s time to let go can mess up your mind, it can mess up your spirit. It can even mess up your future. What’s worse, it can mess up the connections with the people that are purposed to be in your life far beyond a season.

.

How do I know? Well, let’s just say that I learned the hard way.

 .

Stop holding onto people that could care less or otherwise show that they don’t want to be held on to.

 .

.

I want to challenge you to take the next 10 days to do a complete examination and analysis of every single friendship, relationship, and family bond that you have in your life. Pray about them. Seek the Universe for answers. Then be brave and bold enough to let all of the ‘end of season’ people in your life go. Do it, and don’t look back.  After that, take the next 10 days to come to terms with all of the seasonal relationships, friendships, and bonds that have already ended: the people who have either already left your life or who are showing signs that they are on their way out. Settle those statuses in your heart, mind, and soul. Gain closure by letting out all of your emotions about it. Then afterwards, release the emotions—and the people—to the wind.   It’s never an easy thing when it’s time to let go. But when it is done, the results can be a huge weight lifted, a freedom and joy that can never be stolen again, a peace that passes all understanding, and a future full of promise that is yours for the taking.

.

Remember: sometimes there is a Blessing in letting go.

This is a very empowering post. Just like trees need pruning, sometimes our relationships require it too.
