What on earth is a GIVE Guide, you ask? It is a resource of tools and information you can use to make the most out of this season of giving. Be sure to look out for new updates every week from now until the end of the year.

First on the GIVE Guide: Events.

Online giving events are increasing in popularity this year. Decide on a few social causes that you are most passionate about, and see if any associated organizations are hosting something special for the holidays.

Here are a few opportunities if you need suggestions: .

– Building Young Leaders: A Perfect World

– Child Literacy: Reach Out and Read

-Alcoholism and Drug Dependence: NCADD

Check out these and/or other organizations on Facebook and Twitter. Some may have campaigns where a simple ‘Like’ or ‘Share’ on Facebook or a ‘Retweet’ on Twitter will raise money for a worthy cause. Also look for events such as Twitter parties, Special Google+ hangouts, and live online chats and streams.

Another great place for finding holiday charity events is on the websites of local news and radio stations. Many host special giving drives or parties during the month, and even list information for other similar events in the area.

Let’s not forget the tried and true Salvation Army red kettle cans—online! You know about the physical kettle cans placed throughout your city, but did you know you can host your own personal one on Salvation Army’s website? Creating one is free, and once you’ve created your Kettle, you will receive a special link that you can email to your family and friends. The more people you invite to donate, the more you increase your ability to help those in need this season. There is even an option to import your address book to make spreading the word easier. Participating in holiday charity events is just one of the many ways you can give this season. Just a little donation of time, talents, or money can make ensure that other less fortunate have a merry Christmas.
